Lub d, we see solo travelers walk through our doors every single day carrying the same mix of excitement and “first-day nerves.”
Some arrive after quitting their jobs to backpack Southeast Asia. Others are traveling solo for the very first time. And almost everyone quietly wonders the same thing:
“What if I don’t meet anyone?”
After years of hosting travelers across Thailand and Southeast Asia, our crew has learned something important:
Meeting people while traveling isn’t about being outgoing.
It’s about staying in environments designed for connection.
That’s why Lub d was built differently from traditional hostels. We don’t just provide beds — we create what we call “socialized hubs” where conversations, friendships, and spontaneous adventures happen naturally.
Whether you’re looking for:
- high-energy nightlife
- beach hangs
- adventure buddies
- co-working friends
- travel companions
here’s how travelers actually meet people at Lub d — and which locations work best depending on your vibe.
Quick Answer: Best Hostels for Meeting People
Looking for the best hostels for solo travelers who want to make friends?
Here are the Lub d locations our crew sees creating the fastest connections:
| Best For | Lub d Location | Why Travelers Love It |
| High-energy social scene | Lub d Phuket Patong | Pool parties, pub crawls, nightlife |
| Outdoor adventure travelers | Lub d Koh Tao Tanote Bay | Snorkeling, kayaking, cliff jumping |
| Balanced social + beach vibe | Lub d Koh Samui Chaweng Beach | Beach games, quizzes, beach club |
| City explorers | Lub d Bangkok Siam | BTS access, city link-ups, co-working |

Why Hostels Matter More Than Travelers Realize
One thing we constantly observe:
Travelers often think:
“The destination will make the trip.”
But from what we see daily:
👉 The accommodation shapes the experience more than the destination itself.
Why?
Because:
- this is where people meet first
- plans get formed
- pub crawls start
- island trips happen
- friendships begin
A great hostel creates opportunities for spontaneous connection without making socializing feel forced.
That’s the real difference.
How Our Crew Helps Travelers “Link Up” Naturally
At Lub d, our activity teams are specifically trained to reduce the awkwardness solo travelers often feel during the first 24 hours.
This isn’t accidental.
Every activity is intentionally designed around:
- low-pressure interaction
- shared experiences
- easy conversation starters

1️⃣ Phuket Patong: The “Pool Side Strategy.”
Best For:
- party travelers
- solo backpackers
- nightlife-focused trips
👉 https://lubd.com/phuket-patong/
At Lub d Phuket Patong, almost everything revolves around our iconic see-through pool.
And honestly?
That pool does half the social work for us.
Why It Works
From what our crew sees every night:
People naturally gather around:
- pool games
- cocktails
- music
- pub crawl meetups
The environment removes the pressure of “trying” to meet people.
Instead, conversations happen naturally.
Signature Social Activities
🍻 Patong Pub Crawls
Travelers pre-game together before heading to Bangla Road.
🏐 Pool Volleyball
One of the easiest ways strangers become friends fast.
🎯 6 PM Social Challenges
Quick games and competitions hosted by the crew.
Why Patong Works So Well for Solo Travelers
Patong is one of the easiest places in Thailand to meet people because:
- nightlife is concentrated

People bond fastest when they’re doing something together.
That’s why activities happen daily.

🎮 Monday Games Day
Competitive but low-pressure.

Why Adventure Creates Stronger Connections
From what we observe:
People tend to connect faster when sharing experiences rather than simply partying.
Examples:

- exploring hidden coves
This creates a more relaxed social atmosphere.

4️⃣ Bangkok Siam: The Urban Social Hub
Best For:
- first-time Thailand travelers
- digital nomads
- city explorers

Bangkok can feel overwhelming at first.
That’s why social hostels matter even more in big cities.
Why Lub d Bangkok Siam Works So Well
From our crew’s perspective:
Travelers don’t struggle to meet people in Bangkok because they’re shy.
They struggle because:
- the city is huge
- everyone is moving fast
- people isolate in hotels
That’s exactly why our common areas and activities exist.
What Travelers Usually Connect Over
- food adventures
- temple visits
- rooftop bars
- Chatuchak Market trips
- co-working conversations

- stay flexible
- naturally integrate into conversations
Meanwhile, groups often stay within themselves.

Honestly? if you like social hostels and meeting people, it’s probably the best hostel 😄
I stayed at Lub d Phuket Patong and the vibe was super social without feeling too chaotic. There are always people around the pool, activities every day, pub crawls/events, and it’s really easy to make friends there — especially for solo travelers. Plus the location is amazing, super close to the beach and Bangla Road.
A lot of travelers say they ended up staying longer than planned because of the people and atmosphere there.
